Whether you are buying at retail or a dedicated collector, take the time to think about where the wine is in it's life cycle. The majority of wine is ready to drink now and should be consumed within five years if not tonight. Knowing when to drink a wine and it's narrative will only make for better life experiences and wine memories and those are certainly worth having.
